Google claims that if you submit a sitemap file to their webmaster tools section you will increase the visiblility of your site:
"Webmaster Tools helps you see your site the way Google sees it. If we have a problem accessing any of the pages on your site, we'll let you know. And it goes both ways: You can tell us about pages on your site by submitting a Sitemap."
Do not definetely use this service if you have doorway pages inside the domain you need to submit.
Instead of submitting a sitemap.xml is much better to interlink your pages one with another so google to pass smoothly from one page to another and index them all.
This tactic is much better than revealing your hidden doorway strategy by submitting a sitemap file to them.
Who thinks something different?

I am not sure if we should avoid the Google sitemap system as a whole vs. be cautious when using it. I believe that Google as a whole wants to make the Internet experience a better one by providing beneficial tools that help both you and me, but at the same time technology has its good and bad sides. While allowing the search engine giant to index your site quickly, it also allows them to quickly sort out the good, bad, and the ugly. The ugly meaning sniff out doorway pages and whatever else they can detect more immediately, I would too if I were them. If you’re just going to give it to me why not take it.

They need to keep a competitive edge and innovative technology allows them to do it. Anyone that thinks the googlebot won’t analyze a site for new technologies in web development and SEO tactics their sadly mistaken. It will report anything back to the main server and it will then be analyzed by the Google team for its validity. So what you want to do is submit your sitemap, if you want to, so that your sites can quickly get indexed, but leave the multitude of links that make up your doorway pages out. Let the webbot find them naturally. DON’T just bring immediate attention to yourself. In the end this might not make any difference at all, but until then why bring unnecessary attention to yourself right away if you do not have to.

Hi, I have been using doorway pages, in one way or another, for many years now, at one time I had a website with over 20,000 doorway pages, and I have always submitted a sitemap.xml to google, and as far as I know, they have never banned any of my sites through using doorway pages, I believe if they contain other content on them text then I dont see them as doorway pages, or I dont think google do either. thats my opinion any way!!

Hi joe74, a sitemap is a page in which a search engine would check to see what pages, are on your site, so as the robots can spider them, for indexing them

you'll also need a robots text. this tells the robots where on your website they can spider, and of cause what directories they cant or files.

I hope this helps you
